Leadership is influence. – John C Maxwell
You are a leader. No, this is not written specifically for the president. It’s not specific to the CEOs and owners of large corporations. It’s for you.
There’s a giant falsehood in the world. The belief that you have to be promoted to be a leader. The belief that you have to have some fancy title to make change. The belief that you have to wait for years in an organization for your opportunity to take the reins and spread your way of doing it. That way of thinking is over.
Building square houses, eating eggs for breakfast, and best man speeches are all systems that our society recognizes as the norm. These systems are made by humans just like you. Many of the systems don’t last because they are a good idea, it’s just because somebody did it and it spread.
Right now in your life you are a leader. You do some things your way and people notice. You need no special title. Someone near you is quietly watching how you do things. On the outside they may question but on the inside they are wondering if your way is better. You are influencing, spreading your ideas, making change.
Examine your choices. What systems are you using? Are they working? Or maybe it’s time to recreate the way it’s done. It’s time to do it differently. Improve something. Lead.

For the first time in my life, I jumped on the “Word of the Year” bandwagon. What word did I choose? LEAD. Go figure. What I wrote about (http://www.piggybankdreams.com/?p=47) is very similar – feeling like leadership was someone else’s gig until I finally picked up the torch. All that to say, your post is very relevant for a lot of people (myself included). I also really like the images you select for your posts. Very thought provoking.
I have noticed a lot of blogs with the theme of leadership. I think it in part turns out to be a great buzz word for lot of entrepreneurial type folks. The group that realizes that you can’t wait for good things to happen, you have to go out looking for them with a club. Thanks for stopping by, Laura. I’m really digging your domain name! We are gonna be great pals.
