60 Hours in Burlington, Vermont

It’s not spring yet but you’d think it was if you were a resident of Burlington, Vermont. I spent the weekend there early in March. It was 25 degrees outside and the wind was blowing all day. When it got dark, the sky filled with clouds and dusted the whole place with snow. The next morning I looked outside to find the folks of Burlington covering the streets.

Headed back to the hotel at dusk. This is looking down Church Street.

Some of them were slugging along in snow boots but others were rocking slim clothes and going for a run along the frozen Lake Champlain. The winter weather hadn’t deterred them, if anything, the snow drew everyone outside to appreciate the sunshine. I bundled up and went out to see what the buzz was about. Every corner had a “locally sourced” restaurant and a Subaru with a bike rack. I found that folks on the sidewalk don’t much care to talk but if you’re sitting in a restaurant you can’t find a nicer, or more diverse bunch of folks.

Church Street in the morning before the snow had melted very much.

Burlington is a cool town with way more than I had time to see and do. I’m looking forward to going back. Especially to enjoy the specialty coffee that they take very seriously. Here’s a few places and things I found around town while I was there. Cheers!

Huevos Rancheros at El Cortijo. Insanely good flavor.
Down on lakefront of Lake Champlain. In the background the lake is still frozen and a few folks are rolling the dice and walking on the water to check out the little light house.
The real stuff at Burlington Bay Market and Cafe.
A local baked cake from Maglianero Cafe. The cake was just okay but the coffee was legit. I was up for like three days after I drank this!
